In 1905, a renowned Berlin master builder designed a variety theatre and ballroom in the heart of Mitte. For over 80 years it lay forgotten — until it was rediscovered by chance, buried under rubble and time. Between 2015 and 2018, I led the complete interior design and restoration of this listed building. A space that now lives again.
Heritage Interior Design – Berlin Mitte – 1.500 m2
What I solved here
- Researching and reconstructing the original 1905 facade details — decorative stucco reliefs and window designs — from only two historical photographs
- Extracting the entire colour palette for doors, windows and walls directly from the restored pigments of the historic staircase
- Converting the theatre hall into a professional concert venue — acoustic ceiling panels, climate control, full lighting system
- Designing fully concealed infrastructure to allow any space to transform in minutes — offices, kitchens, event spaces
- Creating maximum flexibility across 1.533 m² while preserving the authentic character of a listed building
